Blejski (12th-13th July 2014)

Blejski (Veldes in Deustch, Bled in English) is an Alpine town found in the Julian Alps in Northwestern Slovenia (Slovenija). It is 12home to the very beautiful Lake Bled (Blejsko jezero).

Was meant to arrive in Bled only at night and see the Lake on Sunday morning but the drive to Venezia had to be postponed to Sunday instead. Took a huge detour from Innsbruck but we still made it.

The album cover features Lake Bled as seen from atop Bled Castle. Here's the picturesque view that made that detour all the more worthwhile!

Looking down from Bled Castle to the biggest concentration of hotels around Lake Bled. It was a rather gloomy day that day so this was the last instance of the sun before it hid behind the clouds.

Lake Bled along with Bled Island and beach Mlino (the light green area seen here). Pretty beautiful eh?

Standing on the castle walls and wearing my Oranje shirt and facepaint in full support of Holland prior to their 3rd-place playoff win over Brazil later that night. I'm clearly not the main thing in this one, as there's Bled Island and the beautiful Alps in the background. Pity the snow caps were no longer there.

One of the towers on Bled Castle along with the Slovenia flag. Unfortunately, there was not the slightest bit of wind so there was no way it was going to fly.

Blejski otok (Bled Island) has a church dedicated to the Assumption of Mary as one of its main buildings. This photo is an example of why I wanted an 18-200mm lens so badly! The all-in-one that you'll love carrying around :)

There was no way to get a good shot of the whole lake even from atop the castle but you've at least got to have one with Bled Island.

That was it on top of Bled Castle so we headed next for beach Mlino, where you can see the green grass that was seen from at the top earlier. Bled Island looks close by, but it actually takes 30 minutes of rowing to get there, be it by rowboat or by pletna (similar to a gondola).

Row row row your boat, gently down the stream, merrily merrily, merrily, life is but a dream! Lake Bled is a popular place for rowing and hosted the 2011 World Rowing Championships most recently. (Hosted it another 3 times before that)

Seen here is a typical rowboat, a group of enthusiastic rowers and the Bled Castle in the distance.

Evening descends upon Bled and Bled Castle (Blejski grad). As already seen from the photos taken from atop here, this medieval castle overlooks Beautiful Blejsko jezero (Lake Bled). Based on the records provided within the castle, it is the oldest one in Slovenia.

All kitted out in my Deutschland attire on the Sunday morning of the 2014 World Cup Final. Again, the background's the main thing.

Love the calmness of the lake in the early morning. It stands out even more thanks to the reflection of Bled Island onto the lake.

With my dad and big thumbs-up for Die Nationalmannschaft before we took the long drive to Venezia, Italia!

Bled lived up to all my expectations of its beauty and I'd love to come back just to soak it all in with my eyes again.

For me, like it was with Dubrovnik, the true beauty of a place like Bled is never done enough justice by a camera. You have to see it for yourself!
