So we went "La La La La La La La La La La... Leggo" (along to Shakira's infectious song) on our road trip from Graz to Hungary. Took quite a long drive on a hot day which was especially tiring for Chris because he'd just finish his paper earlier in the morning.
First stop in Hungary was to Lake Balaton, where we settled in at a cosy little place between Vonyarcvashegy and Balatongyörök before heading towards the lake for dinner. No surprise that we were starving since we were in Hung(a)ry after all ;) Day 2 was all about heading north towards the historical village of Tihany. Our journey to the largest lake in Central Europe had the climatic end in Keszthely where we watched the Netherlands' Penalty Shootout win over Chile.
Seen in the album cover is the view of the very beautiful Lake Balaton, where the mountainous northern area is a wine region while the southern, lower-lying area is home to many resort towns or small cities.
The stories of the trio in Balaton begins...
When you go for a road trip, you'll need a car. So here's a car, which obviously doesn't belong to Chris. Parked in the private estate of Vonyarcvashegy. Doubt it still works (though I wouldn't be surprised if it did), especially since its headlamps have been removed. Good thing Chris had another car ;)
By the lake, feeding mosquitoes, listening to some music and starving like crazy.
After much starvation, we were bound to receive a huge shock when the food arrived! My word, that's scary!
Trio shot with the Benedictine Tihany Abbey. It was established in 1055 during the reign of the Kingdom of Hungary. I wonder what on earth were we looking at?
The Tihany Abbey again, as seen from the left corner.
Lots of little sails populate the lake in the day. It's probably right to assume that sailing is for the wealthy, and it turns out that people who like in Tihany have the highest per capita income in all of Hungary!
While Chris was having fun with an adorable little puppy...
...I was having fun with chilli! Or was it Paprika? Doesn't really matter. All that matters was that it's supposed to be spicy.
"The Way of the Cross" up the slope, some 5 minutes away from the Tihany Abbey.
Change in direction... Looking down towards the Tihany Abbey from the top.
Apparently, Tihany also has the highest housing prices in all of Hungary too. So you've got take a nice picture with one in the background by the lake.
Then of course, you go on to take funny photos yourselves.
One last snap shot of the Tihany Abbey from the car!
Rich people... they even have a Heliport!
Thumbs up for Nikon!
As the sun sets in Keszthely... you get this beautiful silhouette!
Side view of the Keszthely Town Hall. Keszthely is the largest city by Lake Balaton and is a regional hub for culture, economics and education. It's easily accessible by train and car is a key attractive point for tourists.
All ready for the Holland game, in front of the Keszthely Town Hall. Even our new friend was getting into the mood ;)
The Festetics Palace, the Baroque styled palace is usually surrounded by the beautiful gardens with blossoming flowers but the weather's been so erratic that the flowers didn't want to bloom :(
In celebratory mood back at our Vonyarcvashegy home. Roaring like Dutch lions again! Add to the fact that Germany had won 2 nights ago... I was most certainly in buoyant mood!
So, the heart-stopping victory was the last bit in Balaton. Because we're heading to the capital next!
